Study on the Prevalence Rate of Serum HBsAg and Anti-HBs in A Recent 10 Years (1983-1992) among Koreans

Abstract
Liver diseases are one of the most prevalent disorders and they are closely associated with Hepatitis B(HBV) infection in Koreans. This study was performed to know the change of positive rate of the serum HBsAg and Anti-HBs since 1983 to 1992.
More
than
four and half million subjects were randomly selected geographically and analysed their serum HBV markers. The overall prevalence of serum HBsAg was decreased to 5.5% in 1992 from 8.5% in 1983 and the positive rate of serum anti-HBs was increased
to
47.2% in 1992 from 18.0% in 1983. This result suggest that the effort for the detection of serum HBV markers and vaccination campaign contributed largely on the change of prevalence rate of HBV infection in Korean population.
